Happy Second Saturday in August,

Five years ago, those words would’ve terrified me, filled my stomach with dread, and made me kick myself for not taking advantage of the carefree days of June.

As you might have guessed, that’s because I was a full-time teacher five years ago, and as anyone who’s ever taught knows, August is the month to be dreaded.

A veteran teacher taught me this early in my career when she told me the following analogy:

June… is like a Friday.

July…. is like a Saturday.

August is a Sunday. Actually, not just Sunday… but Sunday night.

And we all know how good Sunday nights feel.

That said, I think you don’t have to be a teacher to get the feeling that August is sort of a bummer - especially if you live in a place where winters can be brutal and you live for the months of the year when life is sunny and warm.
