Just in time for back-to-school...exciting newsletter changes and a SALE!
I've got some exciting changes coming your way! Plus, a ton of links to get your September started.
Note: This week’s audio version will be available for everyone… paid and free subscribers. After that, only paid subscribers will be treated to my radio voice 🎙️ - which I promise I am working on.🤓 Moving forward, the voice over will be a paid subscriber feature.
I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter, there’s a lot of good stuff for everyone!
Happy September!
Does the start of September hit you with mixed emotions?
I get it.
If you’re a teacher or a kid, September can be kind of a bummer. The party’s over. Time for reality. The rat race gets back in full swing.
But as jolting as that alarm on the first day of school may be, you’ve got to admit this time of year isn’t all bad. I mean, after a hot summer, crisp fall air feels kind of good, doesn’t it? And of course you can pumpkin spice latte your way to the apple farm and then to your local winery, plus there are so many cool things you can do outside.
It’s true. Life feels fresh and hopeful in fall. It’s like New Year’s all over again - a chance to pull out fresh notebooks or journals (aren’t they GORGEOUS?), a new academic year planner (SWOONING), and maybe even some new pens (you can never have too many).
Actually, you can revisit almost anything in September, all in the name of “Back to School” and fresh starts. Plus, let’s talk sales - so many sales… end of summer, back to school, fall fashion, yada and yada. Here are some great deals, and in case you want to be like the cool kids, see what’s in and what’s out for back to school this year.
Speaking of sales…this newsletter is on sale!
Why am I jumping on the Sale Bandwagon?
Today is September 5 - if my mom were still around, it’d be her 97th birthday. One of my favorite memories of childhood was school shopping with my mom. So, in my mom’s honor (she always liked a good bargain), I’m throwing birthday bash sale for What I’d Rather Be Talking About. It’ll run all the way to my birthday on September 9.
That means… from September 5 - September 9, subscriptions to What I’d Rather Be Talking About will be 40% off.
(I’d say that’s a pretty sweet deal. You know you want to click the button below…)
But wait. There’s more!
This sale coincides with some cool changes I’m making to improve the newsletter (and your life).
Because if we’re not working to improve our lives, what are we even doing?
Here’s what’s happening:
All free and paid subscribers will continue to receive What I’d Rather Be Talking About every Thursday. (That’s going to stay the same.)
However, the weekly newsletter format is a-changin’ -
Paid Subscribers will get:
The regular Thursday newsletter PLUS a new feature -“Things I Can’t Stop Talking About” where I’m taking my curating game to the next level. Each week, I’ll case the internet, magazines, billboards, and be fully prepared to stop people on the street to ask where they found their shoes/pants/purse/etc. My goal is to get you to tell your friend Sheila, “Sheila, that Abbey finds the darnedest things.” (Even if you don’t have a friend Sheila.) You’ll also find important tips to help you live & feel better.
An audio version of every single newsletter. Yes, that’s right. If you don’t have time to read the newsletter, I’ll read it to you. Your audio link will be found below the paywall of each week’s issue.
Special bonus content - surprise travel pieces and photos, pop-up newsletters, “best of” lists, and more!
My eternal gratitude and thanks.
Free subscribers will get:
What I’d Rather Be Talking About delivered every Thursday. You’ll also get two or three special links to check out - maybe a podcast, sale, or recipe - I promise it’ll be fun and helpful.
The “Things I Can’t Stop Talking About” list on the last Thursday of each month. (So, paid peeps get the list 4 times per month, free peeps once.)
Free and Paid subscribers will continue to receive the Who I’d Rather Be Talking About interviews I run every couple of weeks. Plus… you’ll all receive white light energy and my ultimate gratitude for even opening my silly newsletters in the first place. That won’t change.
Why am I doing this?
It’s really not a plot to diss my free subscribers. I love you guys.
Since I started writing What I’d Rather Be Talking About in December of 2022, it’s been my baby. My passion. I think about it all the time, and want it to be my permanent, full-time job. I want What I’d Rather Be Talking About to be What I’d Rather Be Talking About, 24-7.
In fact, my dream has always been to have a weekly column in a newspaper (like Dear Abby, only with Abbey spelled the correct way). But since column gigs aren’t exactly plentiful, I see Substack as the answer. And I’m here for it.
AND…
As much as I hate this expression… I gotta keep the lights on. And by lights I mean pay the mortgage, buy gas, get my hair did. Life is a bit costly these days. You understand.
It comes down to simple economics, folks. :)
So.
At the risk of making you feel like you’re about to buy a timeshare… (insert commercial voice) if you’ve been thinking of signing up as a paid subscriber, now is the time to do it.
This sale is hot.
I’ll stop the commercial now so that you can check out these two podcast recs:
I’ve posted this link before, but since we’re starting fresh in September, we might as well do it in a way that lets us live to 100. Check out the Feel Good Podcast interview, “Dan Buettner and The Blue Zones: Lessons from the World’s Healthiest People.”
Maybe Back to School inspires you to rethink where you’re working. Hello Monday talks about career changes in this episode while Zero to Travel talks with digital nomad Kristin Wilson about life on the road and why it’s important to pursue your dreams sooner than later.
And tune in below for the first Things I Can’t Stop Talking About list.
It’s going to be good, people.
XO,
Abbey
