Who has time to read a newsletter, it’s the first holiday weekend of the summer.

Right?

So I’ll keep things brief, and then give you a bunch of links to dive into.

But first, an important PSA about Holiday Weekend Safety…

You’ve probably heard reminders about holiday driving safety, grilling safety, water safety, etc. from every news station and morning show. (If you missed those reports, the American Red Cross has a list of Memorial Day tips.)

And really, we could really boil down all those safety tips to a few key points:

be aware

be cautious

use your head

That advice is good for any day of the year and for the record, I’m 100% certain my dad channeled me with the word choices. If he were here this weekend, he’d remind me of those things before we make our journey up to our family’s cottage. He might even flavor his advice with his favorite expression… don’t be a dopus.

Speaking of my dad, my family and I will be thinking of him and remembering him early next week on the four year anniversary of his death. He was part of the Greatest Generation, served in WWII, and had a great appreciation and respect for all who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

Which brings me to Memorial Day, a day to remember the U.S. Military personnel who never made it home from serving our country. Here’s a nice piece by the History Channel on the significance of the day.

And, if you’re in the US, you may have noticed poppies being distributed outside your grocery store yesterday, as they are each year. Have you ever wondered why? While Poppy Day is celebrated all over the world, The American Legion brought Poppy Day to the US so that each Friday before Memorial Day we can wear a poppy “to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn their nation's uniform.”

Right after writing today’s newsletter I went to the store, and sure enough… poppies.

Side note, my mom painted the beautiful painting below in honor of the Poppies of Flanders. Read her story of the poppies in this past newsletter.

With that, wishing you a safe weekend, with time to reflect, remember, and enjoy the ones you’re with. ♥️

⬇️ And now… let’s get to some sales, travel recs, recipes, and more. ⬇️
