Welcome to the FIRST issue of The Saturday Sidebar! This is the extra newsletter for paid subscribers - thank you so much for your support! The topic will change each week, depending on what’s buzzing in the world and what I feel needs a proper sidebar.

This week we’re talking about CHANGES… all varieties. How to instigate them, prepare for them, and go through them.

Everyone has dealt with change in one way or another - change of job, relationship, habit, lifestyle, location, and, let’s not forget, attitude.

Change is unavoidable. Sometimes we’re the ones bringing it on; other times, we’re dealing with it.

(If you want to reflect on that a bit, here are 20 songs about change.)

And the thing about change is that when it dawns on you that you’ve got to switch things up, you sort of have to go through with it.

But what’s the secret to making those changes?

Let’s hear it from our old pal Socrates:

Adding on to Socrate’s wisdom is a comment from a reader who had this to say about change when I told him it was the focus this week.

In order to change, you have to look inward before you can look outward.

Nothing is going to change on the outside unless you change on the inside.

BAM!

CHANGES TO MAKE WHEN YOU’RE FEELING STUCK:

• A good way to make a change and get unstuck is to determine where you started. Listen to Seth Godin’s Akimbo podcast in this episode about Origin Stories.

• The best thing to remember if you feel stuck is that it’s all in your mindset. You don’t have to say there. Chris & Lori Harder tell you how to Never Stay Stuck Again in this episode of Earn Your Happy.

• And while you’re over at Earn Your Happy, you might want to listen to Shoot Your Shot & Throw the Hail Mary for encouragement and advice on going for whatever dreams you have.

LIFESTYLE CHANGES BY LOOKING AT YOUR DIET:

WRAPPING THINGS UP:

If I wanted to pick a niche that would guarantee I’d always have something to talk about, I’d choose change. There are so many more examples I could’ve shared, but that would’ve been overwhelming. And call me crazy, but I think it’s hard to execute a change if we’re spinning in 15 different directions. So it’s best we take things one change at a time when we can.

We’ll get plenty of chances to continue to evolve and change, and history has proven it.

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus realized this years ago when he said,

“Change is the only constant in life.”
