This Is Not Exactly The Newsletter I Had Planned
It's been a crazy week, friends. And in the midst of that crazy week, I realized something that might help you if you're in the midst of a crazy week.
I had a lot of great intentions for today’s newsletter. I was going to have it done, proofed, and scheduled by Monday so I could tackle the one million things I’ve got on my list. I’m traveling for work at the end of this week, which will be very cool and I’ll be updating you on that… but in the meantime, I had a bunch of projects to finish.
Plus, I had the other normal trip prep stuff like… packing. Errands. Laundry. The trip mani/pedi. Bank. You know the drill.
A lot of stuff has been whirling around my noggin.
Does that ever happen to you? You make a list. A beautiful list, with your favorite pen, and make perfect squares next to each item that you fantasize about making a huge X through - not only for the satisfaction of getting those things done, but because you’re looking forward to getting those things done, so you don’t have to worry about that one thing any more.
It’s a good feeling, crossing things off the to-do list.
But as we all know, almost as soon as we cross something off… we’ve got a new thing to add. It’s like the two things bump into each other on the way in and out.
New Task: “Yo, dude, nice job. You really gave her a run for her money. Any tips?”
Done Task: “Thanks, yeah, that one has a lot goin’ on that cabeza. Good luck.”
It’s a never ending story. Do-done-do-done… yada. Snip-snap.
Sometimes you need to pause in the middle of the insanity and ask, “Where can I give myself a little break?”
Well.
I paused in the midst of my chaos this week.
And I had a revelation.
If you’re a regular reader I bet you know where this is going… that revelation happens to be What I’d Rather Be Talking About this week:
In looking over my to-do list for a little bit of slack, something dawned on me.
Maybe I could give myself a break.
As in with this newsletter.
And for once, not worry about it with all my might…
but trust that things will be okay.
And maybe if I did that, I’d actually be making a statement,
and reminding my readers
that it’s okay (and even kind of good) to give yourself a break every now and then.
Remember that.
Maybe it’s not a newsletter. Maybe it’s ditching the workout.
Leaving the laundry for the weekend. Using some of your vacation time… to just chill.
It doesn’t have to be fancy or earth-shattering. Just find a way to cut yourself some slack.
You won’t regret it.
With that, I’m going right to the links.
There are two below for everyone, and more for paid subscribers.
Here you go!
And, stay tuned - I’ve got some exciting stuff lined up for you… maybe even a couple of pop up newsletters.
PODCAST OF THE WEEK: The Heal Squad - Is Life Just One Big Experiment?
The title of this episode drew me in, and wow… there are a ton of takeaways. The one I can’t get out of my head is actually about my head. The host talks for a bit about our thoughts and asks… “Who’s running the show?” as in, are we letting our thoughts (in all of their spiraling wonder) run our lives. It made me think… hello, maybe we should be in charge of those thoughts and focus on having good ones? Huh.
YOUTUBE OF THE WEEK: Jay Shetty Reveals The Monk Mindset that Could Change Your Life
This one caught my attention because in the midst of social media, crazy politics, one million things going on at once… do you ever stop and think - maybe living a simple life is the way to go? This YouTube is a great exploration of this idea with a lot of great takeaways. If you like the YouTube, check out Jay Shetty’s audiobook, Think Like A Monk.
